Nose corrections (rhinoplasty)

Rhinoplasty is reconstructive surgery for aesthetic optimisation of the nose which needs to be changed because of natural growth, an accident or a tumour. Rhinoplasty can also be carried out to improve nasal breathing.

Nose operations require great technical skill

More than any other forms of cosmetic maxillofacial surgery, nose operations require a technically competent and skilful surgeon with many years of experience, who is able to visualise the result in advance.

The “nose for everyone” doesn’t exist

Professor Sailer, who achieved world fame in the field of complex facial deformity surgery, has successfully performed more than a thousand nose operations. The great art of rhinoplasty is to achieve what the patient desires, and not what the surgeon desires. Many cosmetic surgeons try to model the “same nose” for all their patients. A good surgeon, however, listens to his patients and tries to give them what they want, as long as this is in the realm of the possible and responsibly feasible.

Preparations and first consultation appointment

Professor Sailer takes both a surgical and artistic approach to his nose operations. In the first consultation interview, he answers your questions, and discusses expectations and possible results. Following this, a thorough clinical examination of your nose is performed in order to determine together which changes are desired and which are possible.

A nose operation must be planned on an individual basis

In order to ensure comprehensive operation planning, the nose is photographed from different perspectives. Additionally, a cephalogram, a true-to-scale profile X-ray taken from the side, is generated. This is the only way the result can be pre- and postoperatively assessed. The profile X-ray is a great help in surgical planning as it represents the nasal and facial structures at a true-to-scale perspective. In case of nasal obstruction and septal deviation, a CT scan of the nose and paranasal sinuses should always be performed as well. Often a rhinomanometry (measurement procedure to determine air resistance through the nose) is also necessary.

Nose corrections require a holistic approach

The shape and size of a nose is also dependent on the proportions of the rest of the face, and even the rest of the body. A very large person should therefore not have a nose which is too small, and vice versa. The nose, lip and chin make up an aesthetic unity. An undersized chin or small lower jaw causes the nose to look too big. In all cases, nose surgery demands exact and thorough planning. Depending on the level of difficulty, nose surgery is performed via minimal invasion, or openly, via surgical access in the region of the nose bridge.

Patient from Switzerland writes report one year after his facial surgery 2022

"I visited 9 different surgeons before I chose Professor Sailer and his team at the Sailer Klinik, and I could not be happier! I am beyond thrilled with my results. I had some rather challenging requests and Prof. Sailer and his team delivered on all of them! My results are incredible. I truly couldn’t be happier. Everything from the initial interview, to the facial planning, to the surgical procedure and recovery were top-notch. I felt like (and still feel like) I am a part of their family. He worked on several areas of my face, and each augmentation resulted in a super-model level result. I highly recommend Prof. Sailer and his clinic to anyone considering an unparalleled aesthetic result.

My ordeal involving my congenital mandibular retrognathia began in early childhood. As a young adult, I decided to visit several doctors to explore potential therapy options. At that time, my doctors (oral and maxillo-facial surgeons as well as ENT doctors) advised me to undergo complex surgery with diverse side effects, in which two operations would be performed – a procedure whereby my jaw would have to be broken and reconstructed. I was still a medical student at the time. Merely the thought of a complex operation led me to suppress a potential solution to my suffering.

Many years later, I decided to resume my quest to find an expert in this field – with the aim of no longer simply tolerating but actually overcoming my suffering. Now using other criteria as a qualified doctor in my search for an expert, I finally found Prof. Sailer. After studying his curriculum vitae, publications and medical career, I immediately realised as a doctor that I had found not only an expert but also a luminary in this field.

My impression of Prof. Sailer was not only confirmed during my first consultation. I discovered a man whose humanity and understanding for his patients outshone his expertise. As a fellow doctor, this impression was something new and totally refreshing for me...

Patientreport from February 2018

Mrs. Pia K. from Germany

I had my operation with Professor Sailer in October 2017. I learnt about the clinic several years ago. However, the procedure was not yet possible for me at that time.

After having an operation carried out on my lower jaw in Germany, which did not solve my actual problem, I decided that I would only have a second procedure carried out by a specialist. After a change of job, my dream once again seemed to be within reach and I arranged a consulting appointment. At the appointment I met Dr. Sailer and Professor Sailer and already on the flight back home I was sure that I would have the procedure carried out there. Following a second appointment, at which everything was precisely discussed and planned, I was lucky enough to be assigned an operation date a few weeks later.

It was a major procedure, but believe it or not, I was never in pain for a single moment. Three months have gone by now and everything has healed well and the swelling has subsided. After years of being dissatisfied, my new appearance is a source of delight every day. Having the procedure carried out was one of the best decisions of my life and I can wholeheartedly recommend the professor, his clinic and the whole team. Rest assured you are in good hands there, both in terms of care and technical competence.

Patient report 2019

Mrs. S.P.

After an unsuccessful surgery I consulted many doctors in Germany in search of help.

After a lot of time searching the Internet, I learned about Prof. Sailer in Zürich

I contacted his very sympathetic and friendly wife, Frau Dr. Sailer, and Frau Oppenberger, who was also very helpful. I travelled to Zürich with my mum.

Prof. Sailer was the most caring and considerate doctor I have ever met.

Regarding my difficult situation, he put a lot of thought into how he could help me.

Prof. Sailer is trying to root out the exact cause of the problem.

Here at his clinic you’re not just parked in a corner.

From the very first moment I felt well looked-after in Prof. Sailer’s clinic and I have complete trust in him.

They also looked after my mum very well here.

They even rang me up after I got home to find out how I was doing.

A doctor had never done that for me before.

The entire team that we talked to at the clinic was more than helpful, and very kind too.

That’s why we want to thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.

Thank you and until next time.”

warm regards

S.P.

Mrs. B. Cakar, Switzerland

Dear reader and companion in misfortune

My story begins with the fact that I have felt unattractive for years since the days of being a teenager. Due to my excessively large nose and my undefined facial features, I had already expressed the desire back then to get rid of my imperfections by means of surgery. I was told that my nose was too big, my face too round. These words not only hurt me but shaped me as a person. The degree of suffering I endured was so great that I felt very uncomfortable as soon as someone looked at me from the side. I had the urge to pose differently in photos in an effort to at least hide my imperfections in photos by means of light, shadow and make-up. I placed a great deal of emphasis on aesthetics since I was very small and to see how my little nose as a child was transformed into a dominant nose although my facial contours were not altered at the same time was a very disappointing process. I was also plagued by severe jaw pain and headaches after wearing braces. For years, I suffered from unexplained migraines, and my jaw regularly made a cracking sound due to unexplained tension, despite all the doctors' visits.

Patient report after nose correction 2017

Angela Dambone, Switzerland

Many, many thanks for my super nose :)

I found out about Klinik Professor Sailer through an acquaintance, on whom he had operated several times very successfully.

10 years ago a doctor unsuccessfully operated on my nose, which had never functioned properly.

Subsequently I sought consultation from at least 7 different doctors from Zurich to Geneva and nobody was able to operate, they all said it would go wrong.

I had nearly given up hope, but then I had a car accident and had to undergo an operation on my nose. When the hospital was no longer in a position to assist me any further, I turned to Prof. Sailer and he was able to help.

On 18/02/2016 I was operated, the nose construction proving to be extremely successful.

It is 1 year ago today since the operation and I can breathe perfectly through my nose. It is also aesthetically beautiful, without any bumps or dents.

I can highly recommend it to everyone. From now on I will only go to Klinik Professor Sailer.

The receptionists and the entire team are always friendly and helpful :)

Thank you so much and the very best wishes

Angela Dambone

Patient report about nose surgery June 2016

Mrs. Maya M. Switzerland

I was unhappy with I looked from the side, my nose was to big with a hump and I had a week chin.

I discussed with my husband that I want to improve my facial appearance and believe me, my husband is not a big fan of plastic surgery and the most important for him was that I look still natural and keep my natural beauty.

Nose operation report April 2016

Patient from Zuerich, Switzerland

I had this nose. A nose I didn’t like, although I had once had no problem with it. Somehow this chunky and crude part no longer seemed to match the rest of my otherwise delicate face.

Nose operation longtime result, April 2016

Mrs. Jayne Cloutier, Hawaii

When I was a child of 7 years I broke my nose. I didn't get any treatment until I reached the age of 23. I couldn't breath through my nose, and got it corrected in a clinic. Twelve years later again I couldn't breath anymore through my nose.

Then I met Dr. Prof. Sailer.

Patient report Oktober 2015

Magdalena Wallhoff, Seattle USA

The experience in Professor Sailer's clinic was exceptional in every way.  From the first telephone call with a staff member to the operation, I was struck by the highest level of excellence.  Everything was clear, precise, and permeated by a genuine care.  It would be enough if everything would be operationally perfect; but Prof. Sailer and his team go beyond that.  Here, one can observe and be at the hands of caring people who have the heart and philosophy to make a sterile procedure into an inspiring experience in life.  My surgery was to correct an accident-caused crooked nose; the accident (a botched sinus surgery) had made me feel that I had lost my own face.  Prof. Sailer restored it, making the nose look very natural despite significant work done on it. I am deeply grateful, not only for having my own face back, but for the example set by Professor Sailer and his team in the pursuit of excellence.

Many kind regards from Seattle!  I am so happy with my nose, and think often of all of you!

Magdalena
